E-tailing continues to grow

Have you bought anything online recently? Surveys in the US show that online retailing (e-tailing) is continuing to see significant growth, while the rest of the industry is struggling .

More and more products are being sold online now: last year, 32% of computer hardware and software was sold online. The percentage of online sales was also high for ticket sales (17%) and books (12%).

Although initially , consumers were wary of

shopping online, they are now becoming more comfortable with online retailers they know and trust. This is partly because of improvement in their sales and marketing strategies .

This trend is not going unnoticed by traditional retailers. Many of them are investing in technology to improve the customer experience, such as upgrading inventory management systems for better supply chain to management, offering in-store inventory through

their Web sites, and allowing in-store returns of online purchases. And ironically , this is also having a positive effect on store sales.

The growth of the online channel signals a new type of retailing, making shopping more accessible to consumers and improving the overall shopping experience. Consumers appreciate multi-channel retailing, and retailers are enjoying growth and increased loyalty as a result.
