  • Listen to audio recordings for each word.
  • Print the cards.

  • Create your own "My Flashcards" list. To do this, click on any vocabulary word and then click "Add to my flashcards."
  • Practice by choosing a set of words on the top, and then using the arrows to quiz yourself.

How do I meet with a teacher?

Conversation classes start every hour: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Enter the classroom from your course page, either by clicking the link in the menu or from the link at the top of the page. Note that you can only enter the classroom during the first 10 minutes of the class. After this period, the link to enter the classroom is not visible and you should wait for the next class to start.

How do I know what to talk about in class?

Each day, a specific topic will be discussed in class. You can see the conversation topics for each week in two places: the “conversation topics for the week” link on the conversation class page and in the left menu on the course home page. The best way to get the most out of class is to look at the topic ahead of time and collect some related vocabulary words or do a little research on the internet.

How can I meet other students?

You will meet other students from around the world in your conversation classes. You can also make new friends by going to our online Student Center, where you will find voice or text chat rooms as well as diverse forums.

Do you offer writing classes?

Yes, every single Classic English unit features a writing course focused on the topic for that unit. The way it works is simple: you submit your essay to a teacher and get detailed feedback within no more than 48 hours.

In units 1-3 and 5-7, you will write an essay based on an actual TOEFL® topic. This gives you some interesting additional information such as a TOEFL diagnostic report.

How do I get my corrections and my grade?

When you submit your writing to a teacher, it will be corrected within 48 hours. You can view your writing grade, the corrections your teacher made, and his/her helpful comments by clicking on "My portfolio" in your course overview. Your teacher will also send you the correction and post your writing grade to your report card.

What is the difference between the Unit & Final tests?

At the end of every Unit you are being tested particularly on the content of that Unit, while the final test covers the content of the past 8 Units. If you do not receive a 70% or higher on the test, you must take the test again in order to move on to the next Unit.

How long is each course?

A Classic English course usually takes 30 - 40 hours to complete. A Business English course (available to Private Teacher students only) usually takes 10 - 15 hours to complete.

One of the benefits of using the Englishtown program is that you have unlimited access to your coursework, which allows you to work at your own pace spending as much or as little time as you need or have on any given piece of the course. With unlimited live teacher instruction and fresh and innovative lessons, the learning doesn’t end until you are ready.

Can I take the test more than once?

If you do not receive a 70% or higher on the test, you must take the test again in order to move on to the next unit. You can take a test as many times as necessary until you receive a passing grade.

You may want to take a test again to improve your grade or get extra practice.

What is a progress report?

The results of the tests and exercises that you completed in your previous course(s) are recorded in your progress report, which you always have access to. You can view your progress report from your course page.

When do I receive my Englishtown Certificate?

The Englishtown level certificate is not just a piece of paper. It is proof that you have reached a certain level of proficiency in spoken English, and the most widely recognized online level certification you can receive.

When you complete a level in a General English course at Englishtown, you receive a certificate.

When you complete all the Business English courses of the same level (either I, II or III) you receive a certificate.

To receive a certificate, you must complete a level in your course.

Your course will only be marked as complete after you fill out the final evaluation form.

You can view the certificates from previous levels in your progress report.
